Tattooing Myself

A few months ago while browsing the net I came across a website selling tattoo supplies. I never thought that buying a tattoo gun is something you could just do. I thought that you needed connections in the industry or something…..but no you can straight up buy tattoo machines meaning any idiot like myself can buy one and tattoo themselves!

I bought a coil machine that came as a full kit with inks and needles. I was super paranoid about giving myself an infection, so I bought gloves, antiseptic wipes and made sure to sterilise all the my equipment.

I didn’t really have a plan and just jumped straight in tattooing a small skull on my leg.

Demon Skull Tattoo are PUNK

I found the needle kept felt like it was getting stuck in my skin, so I did some more research watching YouTube videos to help my technique. I also wasn’t happy with the ink that came with the kit. I found a better supplier online based in Melbourne and purchased some super black ink that I thought would sit better in my skin.

Fresh and sore

I started tattooing a new design daily! I found the whole thing really addictive. I wasn’t too concerned about the designs as I wanted to use my leg as a creative canvas.

No Shader, No Worries

For some reason I couldn’t get the shaders to work in the machine. So I had to do a lot of my fill with the liner needles. This gave some pretty interesting results. I still toss up the idea of buying a higher quality tattoo machine and going back over some of these with the shader.

I didn’t really find the process of tattooing myself that painful. The only spot that really hurt a lot was my knee. I can see why tattooist tend to keep away from that area, I also found a lot of the ink dropped out from the designs on my knee.

It was also a bit of a struggle using a foot peddle and trying to tattoo some of the spots on my leg. I had to get into some pretty interesting poses lol! So again if I purchase a new tattoo machine I will probably try for something cordless.

Tattooing is something I have always wanted to try my hand at. It has been fun experimenting and I look forward to coming up with some new designs. One of my favourite things in the tattoo journey is finding awesome inspiration from other home tattooists. Like this awesome home job below. Hahahah DOG TITS for life!!
